My Grandfather James Bergquist was a Pastor at Calvary in the 60's.  It was really interesting to visit your site.  What a beautiful chuch!  God Bless

Ruth Olson, Tue, Apr 11, 2006, 9:58am

It is good to page through your web site and see all the growth that has happened since my last visit to Calvary by the Sea in 1989.  At the time I was visiting with my then brother and sister in law, Doug and Ivy Olson.

God bless you!

My wife Beth and I will be traveling with two other couples and will be in Hawaii on 26 Feb 06.  We will be staying at Bellows Air Station and were wondering if your congregation will be having Ash Wed services on 1 Mar 06?  I have sent an earlier message and to date have not had a response.

In His Service,
Ralph Minton, Lay Worship Leader

It was wonderful visiting  Calvary By The Sea during October and November of last year. I guess you just know how to make me feel welcome because I'll be back. In August my son will be transfored to be stationed at Pearl Harbor so I plan to spend the month of October at his house. So, I am truly looking forward to seeing all of you again and worshipping with you. Really though, my heart longs for Puna. Sincerely and in the Lord's grace, Susan

Aloha and may each of you share God's many blessings!  I just stopped by your website to reminice - I created some wonderful memories of time spent with you during extended annual vacations in the '80s and '90s.  My family still speaks often of Louisa, April and Mina with love and fond affection as we think back on our communion with such lovely people.  It truly was our honor to host these lovely ladies when they had need of shelter in Minneapolis during a conference.

For those of you who may remember, my parents are Jim and June Bloom.  We lost Mom three years ago and her health wasn't good for a few years prior to her passing.  We know she is rejoicing in her new home with Christ our Lord - full of glory and free of the pains and trials her earthly body bestowed upon her.  I'm saddened to hear of Ivy's passing.  Perhaps Mom and Ivy are planning the future for a whole new kind of Angel Network together!

Though it's been years since I've been back - I still keep CBTS in my prayers.  Should anyone reading this see Louisa and/or Gordon and the girls, April or Mina (I understand she married and moved to the mainland several years ago) - or is in contact with Norris and Deloris of Sand and Sea rentals - please pass along my greetings.  I'd love to hear from anyone and find out what is happening with the congregation of CBTS.

Wishing all of you the peace and joy He brings when we live in his light.

Doru Roll, Tue, Sep 13, 2005, 7:49am

By chance I became aware of the untimely passing of John "Jay" Magin, whom I knew some 20 years ago when we both worked at Grumman on Long Island.

I was a young engineer, John was the seasoned mentor I needed, and we meshed very well from the start. In time as he moved to Hawaii and I temporarely abandoned amateur radio (a hobby John helped me get stated in) due to famuly obligations, we fell out of touch. Only today I heard of his passing from a common friend, also an amateur radio operator.

Please do me the kindness to convey my sincerest condoleances to John's family: Judy, Janis and John. Though I doubt they will remember me these days, they may find a little comfort in knowing that, despite the distance and passage of time, their husband and father is still remembered by those who called him a friend.

God Bless,

Kathy, Wed, May 25, 2005, 6:24pm

I have been visiting on Sundays recently, are your services at 10am always so long? They are lovely, but i get so hungry. Do you ever have fellowship and lunch after the 10 am service? People seem to run off, but I guess they are hungry too.

George Timmers, Sun, May 15, 2005, 7:37pm

Hoping to stop by soon.

My cousin, Riho, will have a wedding at Calvary by the Sea next Monday so I was checking the address on website. She just lost her dad by cancer. How she wishes he would be there! Anyway, I wish her and her new family the best. Looking forward to being at the wedding there.

Pastor David G. Lura, Sat, Feb 5, 2005, 10:01pm

Greetings to Pastor Tim and all those new to CBTS. I worked with Doug Olson from June 1971-May 1975 as an unofficial intern while I served in the U.S. Navy. I later attended Wartburg Theological Seminary and graduated from the Iliff School of Theology, Denver, Colorado. I serve a United Methodist Church in Oak Harbor, Washington. Dale & Alice Noble and Bob Flowers are two names of friends from over 30 years ago. Jim & Marci Walters live near us here on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound north of Seattle, Washington. Blessings and Aloha.

We are returning to Hawaii this spring and I was searching for an ELCA congregation to visit. We are both Cap grads ('74) and wonder if your pastor is the same Doc G that we remember? We hope to join you for church on May 29th. It looks like a beautiful place to worship. Beth (Heilener) + Alan Schnitkey

I have been looking for anyone who could point me to the A.C.T.S. (A Commitment To Serve) program in order to find out if it is possible to start at our church. We had a ACTS program at our church serveral years ago but I can't find out any information on starting a group. Could you help me out? Thank you!

Greeting to the members of Calvary by the Sea Lutheran Church,

My husband Jerry Glenn and I had Sunday brunch today with Pastor Russ and Dana Creydt, Saint Paul Lutheran's new interim pastor. Pastor Russ and Dana shared with us the beauty of Calvary by the Sea, so having an extra minute this evening, I decided to take a peak. What a lovely church and gorgeous setting -- certainly a place to make God's work a little easier. We wish you all the best in in building your relationship between the members of your congregation and your newly called pastor.

We are enjoying Pastor Russ and are sure he will be helpful in leading us to re-establish the mission of Saint Paul Lutheran.

God's blessings to you all,

Chris Christensen, Sun, Aug 29, 2004, 5:46am

My brother is Rev. Tim Mason and I'm so happy that he's going to be a part of your church. The pictures are beautiful and I can't wait to visit!!! Chris Christensen

We visited Oahu and your church in December 2001 and loved it! Was sorry to hear that Ivy Olson passed away and that her husband is no longer your pastor. Hope to get back again this coming December. You have a beautiful facility!

Karan & Andrew Lockhart, Mon, May 10, 2004, 4:52pm

Just going down memory lane...The pictures of the church remind us of the wonderful memories we have of Calvary while we lived in Hawaii. It is good to see familiar faces in the photos. May God bless you as you share His Good News!

It is a real big pleasure to view your website. It is interesting to see how your church has going on all through the week and especially on Sunday mornings. If and when I have the chance to visit the State of Hawaii I would certainly love to come and visit your church. Until then, I will continue to see how your church os progressing via the internet. May God grant many blessings within your congregation.
